Leggat McCall Properties was hired as the project manager for construction of Harvard’s new science and engineering complex in Allston in 2016. The project includes ground-up construction of a 6-story academic research lab with 2 additional floors below grade. All floors are connected by an 8-story atrium that extends to the lowest below-grade floor.
The new building contains four tiered classrooms, multiple flexible flat classrooms, seminar rooms, conference rooms, a cryo electron microscope imaging suite, and various core labs. The upper floors house individual research labs for Robotics, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, BioEngineering, Materials Research/Engineering, and Mechanics.
The project is LEED certified to the Platinum level. In addition, the SEC is the first wet lab to achieve Living Building Challenge certification in three petals: equity, beauty, and materials.
